50th v Great White

Often compared to the 50th Anniversary GMT but there are subtle differences including:

  • Case Brushing
  • Dial thickness - the Great White dial is much thicker and not interchangeable
  • Bezels are not interchangeable with 50th Anniversary

Summary

A less common model than the 50th Anniversary black dial version. The white dial appears to be have been less popular. The legibility is not so good and the luminosity differs. These models are quite collectible now and getting harder to find in good original condition. They are often compared (somewhat unfavourably) to the Rolex 'Polar' Explorer II - the white dial GMT sportswatch on bracelet sold around the same time. The prices of those have risen dramatically whilst the GW has languished. That difference cannot be maintained much longer - the GW will have its day!
