50th v Great White

Often compared to the Omega Seamaster 'Great White' GMT but there are subtle differences including:

  • Case Brushing
  • Dial thickness - the Great White dial is much thicker and not interchangeable
  • Bezels are not interchangeable with 50th Anniversary

Summary

Often compared with the Omega Seamaster 'Great White' GMT version. There are subtle differences in the models. The 50th anniversary model version has an amazing nightime glow from the extensive areas of luminova applied to dial and hands. Now becoming collectible, the appeal enhanced by the non-appearance of the Helium valve seen on other Sm300 models of the era. The two-tone bezel has divided enthusiasts but can be replaced by other non-OEM inserts. They are robust travel watches that wear as well on the beach as under a shirt cuff. The flashes of red on hands and dial add to the vintage feel as well as legibility. A functional modern classic.

Note there is also a solid gold 18k cased blue dial GMT version with rubber strap - ref 2634.80.93 which is very rare.
