The Nivada Antarctic III

Antarctic III advert 1960 - @nivadamuseum

1959-1965

The dress variation known as the Antarctic III is one the very first spin-offs from the original Antarctic as may be seen in the advert of circa 1959/60 shown here. (courtesy of IG @nivadamuseum)

The very first variation is a steel case with straight plain capitalised text. This was closely followed by the wavy script as seen in steel and, rarely, gold cases. There is also a crosshair dial version. Dials have been seen with Aquamatic and Automatic below the Nivada name.

The notable feature is the slim case and thin lugs as opposed to the flat top lugs of the first model. They are still waterproof with steel screw back cases as per other Antarctic and Aquamatic models of the time. These seem to be marketed at the Europeans with 25 Rubis instead of Jewels on the dial. Croton were still the main marketing arm for the North American market and the Croton name does not appear on the III.
