Girard Perregaux Gyromatic
The Gyromatic was the marketing term for an automatic movement used by GP. It was employed for many years and seen in date and non-date movements. The jewel count changed over time, with 39 jewel appearing on the dial in the 1950s. The dial count was often changed to allow lesser jewel movements to be imported into the USA with reduced taxes.
The movement evolved into the HF, a high beat version circa 1968. Standard beat rose from 18k to 36k. This movement is now highly collectible, competing with the Longines Ultrachron at the time for the smoothest second hand.
