However the Ministry for Light Industry decided to simultaneously set up a watchmaking enterprise in the north of the country. In January 1955, four men set themselves up in a small workshop in Tianjin. They dismantled a 5 jewel Sindaco watch and began to copy it. Within 3 months, they had their first complete scratch-built watch ticking on the bench. It was named 'Wuxing' (5 Stars), and it was the first Chinese built watch. | ||
