The Alsta Nautoscaph and Jaws

Richard Dreyfuss’s oceanographer character, Matt Hooper, wore an automatic dive watch in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic, but it was hard to work out what make or model. The watch was an Alsta Nautoscaph, made by a company that shuttered during the Quartz Crisis.

The Nautoscaph watch was made by the Alstater Watch Co and sold under several different brand names including Wakmann and Alsta. This watch features a heavy solid stainless steel screwback case, a screw-down crown, a bi-directional rotating outer bezel, a 17-jewel Swiss automatic movement, and a black dial with luminous hands and hour markers and quick-set date display.

Hard to find now and very collectible. A holy grail for many.
