Agassiz

Strongly linked with Longines for good reasons. Company was founded by Georges Agassiz in 1876, the son of Aguste Agassiz, the founder of what would become the Longines watch factory in 1866.

History

In 1867 Georges Agassiz went to the USA to market Longines models. Nine years later he set up as an independent under his own name. The business model was the finish and assemble movements of high value, normally pocket watches. Georges created his own logo with a signature and a fish. In 1896 the rights to the name passed to Auguste Sandoz.

Starting 1900, Agassiz produced jewellry wrist watches and complicated timepieces. In the 1940s WorldTime models appeared. The Longines connection continued with models being branded Agassiz-Longines. There are also numerous examples bring co-branded with Tiffany and Co.
